Some fathers teach their children how to navigate the world by setting rules. My dad, Joseph Barnes, taught me by trusting me.
From the time I was little, he was there for everything. He did my hair, took me on daddy-daughter dates, sat through countless shopping trips, and never missed an opportunity to remind me how loved I was. As I got older, that support never changed. He gave me the freedom to make my own choices, the guidance to make good ones, and the confidence to know I could always come to him with anything.
The woman I am today was shaped in large part by having a father who showed up consistently, loved without conditions, and respected me as my own person. To many people he is a leader, a mentor, and a friend. To me, he’s simply daddy, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.
