Alvin Darnell Darden

The Barnes Blow Family is proud to honor Alvin Darnell Darden as our Father’s Day and Juneteenth Honoree for 2026.

Alvin has spent his entire life in Brooklyn, New York, but his roots run deep in Capron, Virginia, Southampton County, where generations of his family lived before his grandparents relocated to New York many decades ago.

Although Brooklyn has been his home, Alvin has always maintained a strong connection to Virginia and enjoys traveling to Capron, Courtland, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth to visit family and friends.

For Alvin, faith and family have always come first.

He is a devoted father, loyal friend, faithful church member, and committed family ambassador who believes in making the most of every day.

His personal motto says it best:

“Let’s get it while we are living.”

The Barnes Blow Family proudly celebrates Alvin’s remarkable journey of recovery and personal growth.

Since June 1992, Alvin has remained committed to his recovery, demonstrating strength, resilience, faith, and perseverance.

Following graduation, Alvin worked through the STEP Summer Youth Employment Program, Archer Carrier Messenger Service, Mid Atlantic Trucking Company, UPS, and ultimately built a distinguished 31-year career with the New York Transit Authority, retiring as a Console Train Dispatcher.

Alvin is the proud father of Quashaun Darden and Quaneshia Darden.

He is a faithful member of Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Wynn Stith Blow Family Reunion Committee.

He is the son of Bloise Leola Darden and Homer Pennington and the grandson of Lettie Pauline Stith and John Walter Wynn.

Alvin is known for his generosity, including providing complimentary bus tours for family members attending the Wynn Stith Blow Family Reunion in Princeton, New Jersey.

Family members also know him for his warmth, humor, and memorable Steve Harvey impersonations.

Today, Alvin enjoys retirement while remaining active and engaged with family, friends, church, travel, sports, music, dancing, and community activities.

As we celebrate Father’s Day and Juneteenth, we recognize a man whose life reflects perseverance, family devotion, faith, friendship, and service.

Happy Father’s Day and Happy Juneteenth, Alvin!

With love, gratitude, and admiration,

The Barnes Blow Family
