Celebrating Anthony (Tony) Thomas

Throughout June, we’ll be highlighting the men and boys whose stories, milestones, and presence continue to leave a mark on our family and community.

Anthony (Tony) Thomas

Born in Alabama and raised in St. Louis, Tony comes from a family of service. Both of his parents served in the Army, and at just 17 years old, Tony followed in their footsteps and enlisted himself. That sense of duty, strength, and perseverance has been part of who he is ever since.

Most people meet Tony and notice how quiet he is at first. He’s thoughtful, protective, incredibly smart, and the kind of person who makes you feel safe simply because he’s there. What many people don’t realize right away is how funny he is. Once he opens up, he’s quick with a joke, always ready to make people laugh, and somehow manages to make even ordinary moments memorable.

One of my favorite things about him is his love of adventure. He never turns down an opportunity to explore somewhere new, whether that’s hiking a mountain trail, paddling a canoe down a river, discovering hidden caves, camping under the stars, or planning our next road trip. Some of my favorite memories are the ones we’ve made exploring the world together.

When we’re not outdoors, you’ll usually find him enjoying a video game, practicing Hapkido, or gathering friends around a Dungeons & Dragons table. No matter what he’s does, he brings the same curiosity and dedication that have guided him throughout his life.

Tony’s career has also been built around protecting others. During his time in the Army and now as a cybersecurity professional serving in a civilian government role, he has dedicated his work to helping keep people, systems, and information secure. In many ways, that instinct to protect has always been at the heart of who he is.

I am incredibly proud of the man he is, the life we’ve built together, and the love he gives so freely to the people lucky enough to know him. – Janay Barnes
