As we celebrate Father’s Day and Juneteenth, we honor Gregory Lee Battle—a devoted husband, father, son, leader, and public servant.

Gregory Lee Battle is the beloved son of Henry and Clara Battle, the devoted husband of Yesenia Battle, and the proud father of five children. He is a cherished member of a large and loving family whose values of hard work, integrity, and compassion have helped shape the man he is today.

Those who know Gregory describe him as warm, caring, approachable, funny, focused, professional, and dynamic. His calm demeanor, strong principles, and unwavering commitment to excellence have earned him the respect of family, friends, colleagues, and the community he faithfully served.

After graduating from high school, Gregory attended Saint Paul College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where he studied Business Administration. He began his public service career at Deerfield Correctional Center, laying the foundation for what would become an extraordinary professional journey.

For 28 years, Gregory served with distinction in the Petersburg Bureau of Police. During his career, he worked in undercover operations, traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations, major crimes, and homicide investigations.

Through dedication, hard work, and exemplary leadership, he rose through the ranks from officer to Police Lieutenant.

On May 1, 2026, he retired after nearly three decades of honorable law enforcement service.

Yet Gregory’s greatest title is Father.

Through his example, he has shown his children the values of discipline, responsibility, perseverance, faith, and love.

Whether spending time with family, sharing laughter, enjoying golf, or offering guidance, he has built a legacy that will endure for generations.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, Gregory’s life reflects the resilience, achievement, and determination that continue to inspire future generations. His story demonstrates what is possible through hard work, integrity, service, and commitment to family and community.

Gregory Lee Battle, thank you for your years of service, leadership, wisdom, humor, and unwavering love for your family.

Your retirement marks the conclusion of an outstanding law enforcement career and the beginning of a new chapter filled with continued purpose, family, and opportunity.
