Walking for a Cause That Hits Close to Home

Hey family,

This October, our cousin Rolanda Canty (daughter of Roland Lamison and granddaughter of Beatrice Barnes-Lamison) and her daughter are walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. They’re raising funds to support people in the fight of their lives, and we want to rally behind them.

They’re asking for just $100 each. That’s dinner out or a tank of gas, but this gift goes toward lifesaving research, early detection programs, and support services for those going through treatment.

Why This Matters for Black Women

Breast cancer is personal. Most of us know someone—a mom, sister, auntie, cousin—who’s been affected. And if you’re a Black woman, the odds are even harder:

  • Black women are 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women.¹
  • We’re more likely to be diagnosed under 40 and often with more aggressive forms.²
  • Even when we find it early, we’re less likely to get the treatment we need in time.³

That’s why Rolanda’s walk matters. She’s walking for herself, for her daughter, for us.

How You Can Help

  • Donate. Every little bit helps
  • Share her link with your friends or on your socials
  • Encourage the women in your life to get their screenings
  • Wear your pink and speak up this month

This is a cause. It’s also our reality. Let’s walk with Rolanda by standing beside her.

We’re proud of you, cousin.
